I am drawn to watercolors because of the transparency and luminosity I can achieve with them. I paint primarily to depict the beauty of light and the delicacy of the medium enables me to capture the range of variations in value and color that light reveals, from striking to subtle. In world of watercolor light is often defined by the absence of paint, the white of the paper, offset by rich shadow shapes and a wide range of values. For me, painting is about the conversation I have with this dancing medium. My desire is to respect the properties of watercolor - to guide it gently, let it do what it wants to do, and respond again. I paint things that I find beautiful, situations I find peaceful and calming, it's expression of trance-like state achieved in releam of nature.
My my artistic journey, the style and subject is inspired by my fascination with the natural world, every aspect of it: mountains, sky, land, sea shores, trees, flowers, rocks, shells, water, grass, and on and on. No matter what I do or where I go, I am constantly studying the world around me and the relationship of light and the absence of light upon an object.
In all of my paintings, there’s a balance to my thinking. Certain aspects of the scene may be abstract and minimal while other parts may be quite realistic and detailed. I think this gives my work a very unique look, which is important to me as I don’t want to “look” like anyone else.
My Stepping Stones
Although I may not have a brush in hand, I am almost always "painting," as the painting goes on continuously in my mind. Im exploring composition, color, and shape and working out the details while I am walking, travelling in car, or sitting on a train. I paint a lot en plein air or painting outdoors.
There are many artists who have inspired and taught me - R Rajendran, . Last but not the least I would like to thank, Mr Bijoy Biswal whose mastery of color and composition is a continual source of learning.
It would not be prudent to cover all my art that I create and why. I therefore include generalized artist statements from my thoughts and feelings, the meditative-trance-like state that I perceive when painting all the beauty and wonder of this planet. I look forward to many more extraordinary discoveries along the path that my artist journey will take me and plan to share them with you.
